Alstom’s Trápaga Site to Supply Propulsion for Zefiro Express

Alstom has announced that its industrial centre in Trápaga, Spain will manufacture the propulsion system for the new Zefiro Express high-speed trains in Sweden.

Sweden’s national operator, SJ contracted Alstom to supply 25 electric high-speed trains in April 2022. This contract is valued at 650 million EUR.

The propulsion system for this order will be manufactured at Alstom’s factory in Trápaga, Spain. The site designs and manages propulsion and electric traction systems in all power ranges for mainline rolling stock and urban transport.

Diego García, Trápaga Industrial Centre Managing Director said:

“Being part of this contract is an enormous source of pride for us. The Zefiro Express has already demonstrated its capacity in countries such as Norway, setting new standards of sustainability, efficiency and flexibility in high-speed rail in the Nordic countries. This is one of the most ambitious projects we will tackle in the coming years, and we hope to continue to provide the excellence that has always characterised us.”

The first Zefiro Express high-speed train is scheduled for delivery in 2026. The new vehicles will operate at speeds of up to 250 kilometres per hour and are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, with local temperates dropping as low as -40 Celsius.
