India’s first high-speed transport project, implemented by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), will cover 82 kilometres and connect Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut.

It is scheduled to begin operations next year.

The route will be equipped with the latest ETCS Level 2/Hybrid Level 3 technology in combination with automatic train control (ATO). In addition, the RRTS will become one of the few networks in the world to use LTE technology for train communication.

DB IO will operate 40 trains on the RRTS corridor, which is expected to transport over 800,000 passengers a day.

It will also be responsible for maintaining the railway infrastructure, which includes 25 stations and two depots.

Niko Warbanoff, CEO of the DB ECO Group; Deutsche Bahn International Operations’ parent company, said:

“We’re pleased to contribute to the Indo-German partnership for green urban mobility as the operator of the Delhi-Meerut corridor.

“We are, in this manner, actively supporting sustainable urban development and traffic relief in one of the world’s largest metropolitan regions with over 46 million inhabitants.”

This is DB IO’s second major international passenger transport project in 2022, following the signing of a multi-billion USD contract to plan, operate and maintain the On-Corridor Works Project in Ontario, Canada.
