Germany: Stadler to Deliver 28 TINA Trams to Rostock

Stadler has been awarded a contract to deliver 28 TINA trams to Rostocker Straßenbahnen AG (RSAG) in Rostock, Germany.

This is Stadler’s third contract for its latest-generation of tram railcars, which can accommodate 221 passengers, with 75 seated. The 32-metre vehicles have spacious interiors, large panoramic windows and an integrated passenger information system. Like all RSAG-vehicles, the new trams will be fitted with video surveillance and an on-board ticket-machine.

In addition, the new vehicles will feature an integrated collision warning system, as well as four specially designed bogies that protect the wheels and rails and ensure the trams run smoothly.

Jure Mikolčić, CEO Stadler Germany said:

“We are proud of Rostocker Straßenbahn AG’s order and delighted to be providing these passenger-friendly TINA trams for the third time since the product first went to market, not long ago. The new trams will be tailored to the needs of Rostock´s passengers as well as to the requirements of the network and timetable.”

The TINA trams are gradually replacing RSAG’s 6N1 trams, which date back to 1994–1996 and are being phased out after 30 years of continuous service.

The first new trams will be delivered at the end of 2024 and will start operation in Rostock in 2025.

RSAG board members, Yvette Hartmann and Jan Bleis commented:

“Today is a great day for Rostocker Strassenbahn AG, and will see us purchase 28 state-of-the-art trams, following the completion of a process lasting several years, which involved decision-making, tendering and contract award. We are delighted to be able to offer the people of Rostock even more services and greater levels of safety from 2025, with trains that are environmentally friendly and feature air-conditioning systems and on-board wifi. These vehicles will boast innovative driver assistance systems, including collision avoidance, which will be the distinguishing features of our new trams.”

The delivery will increase the number of Stadler trams in RSAG’s fleet to a total of 41 vehicles.
