Polly Trottenberg Sworn in as Deputy Transportation Secretary

US Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, has sworn in Polly Trottenberg as his deputy, following her Senate confirmation (82 in favour, 15 against) on 14 April 2021.

Ms. Trottenberg has worked more than 25 years in the public sector and most recently worked for seven years as New York City’s Transportation Commissioner, overseeing an agency of almost 6,000 members of staff. In that role she also guided the New York City Department of Transportation through its COVID-19 response, with a focus on liveability, sustainable transport and economic recovery.

In the Obama Administration Ms. Trottenberg served as Assistant Secretary and Under Secretary for Policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation. During her five-year tenure, she addressed state and local transportation matters for all different transport modes: road, rail, aviation and maritime.
