India: Alstom has been awarded a contract worth 220 million euros to design and manufacture 234 metro cars for Lines 4 and 4A of the Mumbai Metro.

The client, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has chosen Alstom to design, manufacture, supply, test and commission the metro cars and provide staff training.

Bombardier Transportation was the original bidder for the metro car contract. Rival bidder CRRC did not conform to the bid requirements and was ruled out. Following Alstom’s acquisition of Bombardier Transportation in January, Alstom has now been able to move forward with the bid and become the successful contractor.
