Île-de-France Region to Get 13 Additional Tram-Trains

Citadis Dualis Tram-Trains

As tram-trains, the Citadis Dualis units connect urban centres with their surrounding suburbs without disruption, as they are able to run on tram lines as well as on regional rail networks. With the same gauge as a tram, these Citadis Dualis tram-trains can operate in towns. Once on the regional rail network, they can carry passengers at speeds of almost 100km/h.

There are currently 78 Citadis Dualis tram-trains in operation in France, 30 of these in the Île-de-France region. Furthermore, in 2018, 34 additional tram-trains were ordered for Île-de-France, for lines T12 and T13. These 34 trains are currently being developed and manufactured by Alstom in France.

France is not the only country to have ordered tram-trains from Alstom. The French rolling stock manufacturer has sold more than 200 tram-trains (Citadis Dualis and Regio Citadis) in Europe. It has branded this technology Citadis Spirit for the North American market. Customers here include the Canadian cities of Ottawa and Toronto, in 2013 and 2017 respectively.
