Alstom Signs 10-Year ETCS Maintenance Contract with SBB | Rolling Stock
Alstom has signed a ten-year maintenance contract for on-board ETCS equipment with Swiss operator SBB. This is Alstom’s second contract with SBB. This current contract, which includes an option to extend by five years, is worth 25 million euros.
Stadler Board Nominates Doris Leuthard | Business
Stadler’s board of directors has nominated former Swiss president Doris Leuthard to join it. Stadler will have its AGM in April 2020, when the vote will take place. If successful, Doris Leuthard would be the second woman to join Stadler’s board in the company’s history. In addition to having been president of Switzerland twice (2010 & 2017), Doris Leuthard has also been Transport Minister.

OEBB Tests Cityjet Eco with Positive Results | Rolling Stock
Austrian Federal Railways and Siemens Mobility have developed an environmentally friendly hybrid train that runs on overhead lines when available and battery power when the line is not electrified. OEBB tested the train, the Cityjet eco, for one month in passenger service. The test period was a complete success, proving that the new technology is workable. The Cityjet eco is based on Siemens Mobility’s Desiro platform.

Hydrogen Refuelling Stations for Trains · Saskia Schulz Wins Innovation Prize | Science & Technology
Alstom has had two Coradia iLint hydrogen trains in operation in Lower Saxony and these have been refuelled by a mobile fuelling unit to date. Starting in 2021, with the arrival of 14 further hydrogen trains, there will be a fixed hydrogen refuelling station. The lead developer at Alstom, Saskia Schulz was honoured with an innovation award for this project.
German-Swiss Agreement to Foster Shift to Rail for Freight | Infrastructure
A new German-Swiss agreement to develop interconnected infrastructure projects to encourage a shift to rail and maritime transport is in place. The agreement focuses on developing the links between the Rhine Valley Line and Rhine shipping with the approaches to the New Railway Line through the Alps (NRLA) in Basel.
