Grand Est Region Buys 39 Coradia Polyvalent Trains

The Grand Est region in France has purchased an additional 39 Alstom Coradia Polyvalent trains. The value of this contract is roughly 360 million euros.

Alstom will deliver the 39 trains in this order between 2022 and 2024.

Order Part 1: Trains for Franco-German Operations

Of the 39 trains, 30 are designated for cross-border travel into Germany. These four-car trains will be dual mode, capable of running at 25kV (France) and 15kV (Germany). They also comply will all relevant German safety requirements. With an operating speed of 160km/h, they will serve Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg, the three German federal states bordering the Grand Est region.

These trains will feature a first-class area as well as space for bicycles. They will also incorporate the European Commission regulation no. 1300/2014 on the Technical Specifications for interoperability relating to persons with reduced mobility. Complying with the regulation, the trains feature more spacious toilets for example. The Coradia Polyvalent is the first French regional train to comply with all European standards. Alstom will deliver the first of these cross-border trains in late 2023.
